CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers lost a tight match at flight three, which helped vault McNeese to a 3-1 decision on Thursday. The loss has eliminated the Privateers from the Southland tournament.
New Orleans got off to a quick start through Cassie and
Ellie Sieling. The duo raced out to a 12-4 lead early in the first set and coasted to a 21-19, 21-17 victory to get the Privateers on the board first.
The momentum turning match for McNeese happened at flight three. Bethanie Durant and Reese Russell won the first set 21-16, but the Privateers' duo of
Renata Dykstra and
Lucianna Alexander countered by taking the second set 21-17.
The third saw New Orleans get out to an early lead, but it was McNeese who arrived at match point first, leading 14-12. The Privateers were able to save the first attempt but the Cowgirls converted on the second to level the score 1-1.
They took the next two matches from there at flight four and five to finish the match and advance in the tournament.
Breanna Cagle and Gracie Behneke won 21-17, 21-13 at flight four. The Cowgirls converted on their second match point attempt at flight five as Bella Giarla and McKenna Malone won their match 21-18, 21-18.
Flight two went unfinished with the Cowgirls up a set and ahead narrowly at 18-17.
