NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team will set their sights on the Southland Tournament starting on Friday morning when they take on the 4-seed HCU Huskies. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
Cassie and
Ellie Sieling were named Southland All-Conference on Tuesday after a strong performance at flight one. The sisters went 18-10 overall and 5-1 in designated conference matches including a win over the Southland Pair of the Year from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Privateers battled hard in a 3-2 defeat against HCU in the regular season at the Southland Mid-Conference. The Sieling sisters earned a win while
Mona Salgado and
Kylie Lyons also won at flight four against the Huskies.
The Privateers took two other matches to three sets but were defeated 16-14 at flight five in the third set and 15-11 at flight two in the third set.
Brooke Dow and
Ashley Salazar went 14-11 while anchoring the second flight for the Privateers for the majority of the season. They were 3-3 in designated conference matches during the regular season.
Since 2020, the Privateers and Huskies have played each other five times in the Southland Tournament. HCU has won three of those five matchups. HCU won the last conference tournament meeting in 2024 by a 3-2 score.
HCU went 9-22 during the regular season and 3-3 in conference play. The Huskies finished their regular season by going 1-1 in the last weekend. They defeated UTEP 3-2 and lost 5-0 to #4 Texas.
