NEW ORLEANS –
Amber Garza has officially been elevated to Associate Head Coach of the New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis program. Garza is currently in her fifth season on the Lakefront.
Garza has been with the Privateers since January 2018 and has helped guide the tennis teams to a multitude of accomplishments. The most recent was being a part of the women's regular season Southland championship in the spring of 2021.
There were also four all-conference selections and the Newcomer of the Year which came from that squad:
Ank Vullings,
Lea Alguacil and
Salma Abdelrahim all earned conference honors.
Lina Hohnhold was the Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year.
On the men's side, the Privateers had three all-conference student-athletes and
Marcel Volz earned Southland and LSWA Newcomer of the Year.
This season so far, the men are off to their best start since 2009.
As a student-athlete at New Orleans, Garza was a standout on the tennis court. She graduated as the winningest Privateer since 2000 and accrued 39 singles victories in her time on the Lakefront. Garza played for the Privateers from 2008-2011.
