NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will both be in action on Sunday when they take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the University Tennis Center. Proceedings will start at 10 a.m.
MEN'S TENNIS
The men's squad is looking to build upon its best start since 2009. New Orleans (4-0) defeated Prairie View 7-0 earlier in the week.
Marcel Volz earned the first Southland Player of the Week honor by a Privateer this season for his 4-0 week with singles and doubles combined against Alcorn State and Prairie View. The senior is a combined 6-0 this season between his singles and doubles matches.
Also undefeated through four matches are
Luke Joujan,
Dhruv Tangri and
David Tesic. This season, Joujan is 5-0 with two singles wins at two different flights and three doubles victories along with Volz. Tesic and Tangri are 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The women's team (2-1) will open their home slate on Sunday against Jacksonville State. The Privateers most recently swept a doubleheader against Alcorn State on Jan. 28 in Mississippi.
Mar Gendra is undefeated (3-0) at flight five this season. Gendra has also won two matches along with
Salma Abdelrahim in doubles this year.
The match for the Privateers sets off a month of February that has five total matches. Their lone other home tilt will be against ULM on Feb. 19. The Privateers will travel to Jackson State, South Carolina State and Charleston.
