NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team looks to build upon their undefeated start to the season with a pair of matches against local foes. New Orleans will face Nicholls on Wednesday and Loyola on Thursday.
The Privateers (5-0) are off to their best start since the 2009 season when that squad started 6-0. Wins in both matches would give New Orleans their best beginning to a spring season since full records have been available (1996).
True freshman,
Matthew Armbruster continues to impress in his debut season on the Lakefront. The first year Privateer won his singles match in straight sets against Jacksonville State. Armbruster also paired with
Marcel Volz to win a highly contested doubles match in which the pair saved five match points. Armbruster is 6-1 between singles and doubles this season.
As a squad, New Orleans has been nearly unbeatable in singles. The team has combined for a 22-4 mark in singles play this season. The Privateers have hit at an even higher percentage in doubles with a 13-2 combined record.
In singles,
David Tesic and
Marcel Volz are both 4-0 on the year.
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic is sitting at a 3-0 mark for the spring.
The Privateers defeated Nicholls 5-2 last season. New Orleans dominated singles, accounting for all of their points. Against Loyola, the Privateers engineered a clean sweep last season and are 9-0 since 1996 against the Wolfpack.
New Orleans was originally scheduled to face Loyola on Jan. 30 but the match was postponed.
