Men's and Women's Tennis Host West Alabama Thursday

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will return home on Thursday when they face the West Alabama Tigers on Thursday at the University Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
New Orleans (6-2) returns after splitting a South Carolina road trip. The Privateers defeated South Carolina State 5-2 but were beaten by College of Charleston 4-1 last Saturday.
 
Salma Abdelrahim won back-to-back matches heading into the week. Abdelrahim has put forth straight set wins against ULM and South Carolina State. In doubles, Abdelrahim is 4-2 this season.
 
The Privateers have been strongest in doubles this season. Combined, New Orleans has put together a 17-5 record in doubles. Ank Vullings and Estelle Vanthier have a 6-1 mark together while Lina Hohnhold and Marthe Degeorges are a combined 5-1.
 
New Orleans has already been familiarized with West Alabama, having played them during the opening tournament of the fall at the Bluewater Bay Classic.
 
The Privateers have played the Tigers once back in the 2012 season. New Orleans swept the board, winning 9-0 against West Alabama.
 
West Alabama recently played at the ITA Indoor National Championships where they went 1-2. The Tigers beat West Florida and lost to Barry and Indianapolis.
 
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers men's squad (10-1) went 2-0 last week and will look to keep the momentum going on Thursday when they face West Alabama.
 
As the women did, the men also played against West Alabama during the fall season at the Bluewater Bay Classic and the UWF Fall Fling.
 
Marcel Volz was named Southland Player of the Week for the second time this season after going 4-0 during last week's matches against The Citadel and South Carolina State. Volz is 17-2 between singles and doubles this season.
 
Max Heinzel and Espen Lagarde are also a seven wins each in singles this year. Lagarde has won five straight with four of those victories coming in straight sets.
 
The Privateer men also played West Alabama in 2012 and secured a 5-4 victory against the Tigers.
