Men's Tennis Faces NAIA Nationally Ranked Xavier (La.) to Start Week

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team starts a new week with a home match against the Xavier Gold Rush on Monday at the University Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
The Privateers (12-3) will be playing their first match in eight days since they lost to their third nationally ranked opponent in LSU on Sunday, Mar. 13.
 
New Orleans has won nine of the last 13 matches against the Gold Rush. Their last outing was in 2021 and the Privateers scored a 5-2 victory over Xavier. The Privateers won the doubles point and got singles victories from four Privateers including Max Heinzel, Luke Joujan and Marcel Volz.
 
Marcel Volz is 11-3 on the season in singles and leads the squad in victories. Volz also has a 10-2 mark in doubles on the season. The Privateers as a unit are 29-12 in doubles matches on the season, good for a .707 winning percentage.
 
Max Heinzel is also in double figures in singles wins this season. Heinzel is 10-3 with all matches occurring at flight two.
 
Xavier (La.) is 11-5 on the season and they recently climbed back into the top five in the NAIA poll. The Gold Rush moved up to fifth in the ITA's latest rankings, released on Mar. 16. Xavier has suffered all of their losses this season on the road (5-5).
