NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will face a crucial conference stretch when they both take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and the UIW Cardinals. The men are slated to play Thursday and Saturday while the women are scheduled to play Friday and Sunday.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers (12-5, 1-0) are back in conference play after winning their lone Southland match against Nicholls. New Orleans rallied from losing the doubles point to win five singles matches on the way to a 5-2 victory against the Colonels.
New Orleans is looking to break a three-match losing skid after they were defeated by South Alabama in Mobile on Mar. 26.
Max Heinzel and
Marcel Volz are both at 11 wins in singles this season.
Luke Joujan,
Espen Lagarde and
David Tesic all have eight wins to their name in singles this season.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-8) is 6-2 in home matches this year. They have not yet played a Southland opponent this season. The Islanders most recently played on Mar. 23 where they were defeated 4-0 by UTSA.
UIW is 10-6 and is on a three-match winning streak. The Cardinals have not lost at home this season (7-0) and have only conceded one point in their last four wins.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateers (8-7, 1-1) are looking to get back on track after a tough slate in March that saw them face Louisiana Tech, Tulane, North Texas and conference foe, Northwestern State.
The women own a 7-0 win against McNeese but were narrowly defeated by the Lady Demons of Northwestern State 4-3.
Lina Hohnhold has not lost in singles since the season opener and is 9-1.
Mar Gendra has eight wins while
Salma Abdelrahim has seven.
Ank Vullings and
Estelle Vanthier have been paired together for eight doubles victories this season.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has been tough to beat at 16-3 this year. The Islanders are also undefeated at home (7-0) on the year. They were just handed their first conference defeat by a 6-1 score against Northwestern State.
UIW (7-9, 1-3) has lost back-to-back conference matches. They were handed a 6-1 loss by Northwestern State then were narrowly defeated 4-3 by Southeastern.
