NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will close their scheduled regular season slate of matches on Monday when they face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Hattiesburg.
The Privateers (13-6) have gone 6-3 at home this season. They have not played at home since Mar. 21 against Xavier (La.).
Luke Joujan is the latest to have reached double figures in wins. Joujan has won four straight singles matches to move his spring record to 10-4. He is 4-2 in doubles as well, all while paired with
Marcel Volz.
Max Heinzel and Volz co-lead the squad with 12 wins each. They both went 2-1 against conference opponents this season and have been anchors at the top of the rotation. Five of Volz's last seven matches have gone three sets.
The last time the two sides hooked up was mere weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the 2020 season.
New Orleans scored a 6-1 win against Southern Miss, their first against the Golden Eagles since 2004. Heinzel and
Espen Lagarde were both on that squad and both won singles matches in the victory.
Southern Miss (9-8) has lost all three of their conference matches against Middle Tennessee, UAB and Florida Atlantic. Sunday will also mark their last scheduled match before the Conference-USA Championships (Apr. 22-24).
