Brady Bennett once again led the way for UNO with an opening round score of 71, ending the day tied with Joe Buenfeld of UIW, and Gareth Steyn of Augusta for first place overall. The Zachary native made birdies on holes four, seven, nine, thirteen and fourteen and at one point was 4-under-par late in round one.
The senior's 1-under-par round was the best by a Privateer at Stonebridge Ranch since Markus Krieger shot the same score in the third round during 2016. It was his 12

Grayson Gilbert and
Ryan Fulton finished 13
th and 17
th respectively after opening rounds of 75 and 76. Fulton's 5-over-par was a five-stroke improvement over his best round at Stonebridge, while Gilbert's 3-over-par matched his best round at the Southland Championships.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"I'm extremely proud of our effort today. Throughout the entire lineup, everyone fought through some really difficult conditions this afternoon. We have positioned ourselves in the lead grouping tomorrow. If we keep that effort up tomorrow and make a few more putts I like our chances come Wednesday."
(on Brady Bennett)
"Brady was rolling most of the day. He was able to get to 4-under-par with four holes to play. He made one mistake and paid for it – that's what this course does to you. But he regrouped and made two fantastic par saves on the final two holes of the day. It was a great way to respond and I can't wait to see what he does tomorrow."
