NEW ORLEANS, La. -
Julian Forde,
Jaden Forester, and
Alec Snell receive Southland Academic All-Conference honors as announced by the league Tuesday.
Forde, an automatic selection, receives the honor in addition to being first and third-team all-conference on the heels of his performance at the Southland Outdoor Track & Field Championships. There, he earned a gold-medal as the lead-off of the 4x100m relay and a bronze in the 100m.
Forde is also one of seven Privateers to qualify and compete at the NCAA DI East Preliminary meet in Bloomington. In an impressive field of 24 men, Forde finished 14
th overall in the 100m and was one of only three freshmen to make the semifinal round.
The sophomore from Barbados carried a 3.50 GPA as a Human Performance and Health Promotion major.
Forester, who is also a sophomore and first-time recipient of the award, is a computer science major with a 4.0 GPA. In addition to receiving all-academic honors, the La Mesa, Ca. native also placed third in the 1500m (4:00.82) at the conference outdoor championships which led to a third-team Southland All-Conference spot.
Snell, a two-time all-academic selection, rounds out the New Orleans all-academic selections. The senior is the conference outdoor championships runner-up in the 800m (1:52.22) coming in behind training partner and fellow Privateer,
Parker McBride, to help lead the men's team to a fifth-place overall finish – the highest in program history.
"Congratulations to Julian, Jaden, and Alec for their award and excellent representation of the Privateer Track & Field family!," said assistant coach
Brock Moreaux.
"Their dedication to their craft resulted in them not only showing up big time for us on the track, but in the classroom as well. These athletes work hard every day and are a pleasure to work with, so I am happy and proud to see them recognized for their achievements."
Southland Conference Track & Field All-Academic Teams are selected by a 50-percent rule. Of the total number of nominees, half are named all-academic selections. Honorees are nominated and voted upon by head coaches, sports information directors, and academic staff members from each university. Student-Athletes of the Year are voted on by the Southland awards committee, consisting of one administrator from each member school.
