Track and Field Completes Coaching Staff: Ben Hibbert Hired as Assistant Coach for Sprints / Jumps.

NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach Brock Moreaux completed his staff with the hiring of new assistant coach Ben Hibbert on Wednesday afternoon. Hibbert will assist with the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers in his new role with the Track & Field program.

"I'm really excited about the addition of Ben to our staff! He comes here with a wealth of knowledge and has had the opportunity to work professionally with coaches at the highest level. He will develop student-athletes that will fit the mold of what we are continuing to build here at UNO. I have no doubt that his work ethic and intelligence will pair extremely well with our team. He is devoted to his craft and will be a great mentor for our student-athletes both on and off the track" said Moreaux.

Ben comes to the Lakefront after working most recently as a volunteer coach at Indiana. Working directly under Associate Head Coach Edward Beathea, assisting with the Hoosier sprinters and hurdlers.

As a Hoosier volunteer, Hibbert was instrumental in the development of First-team All-American sprinter Rikkoi Brathwaite. In Hibbert's lone season coaching in Bloomington, Brathwaite finished second in the NCAA Indoor Championships with a 60M time of 6.52 (an Indiana school record) after winning the 60M at the Hoosier Open setting personal, meet and facility records with a time of 6.54.

"I'm very excited to join a program that is very quickly climbing the ranks of Div. I Track & Field. I want to thank Coach Moreaux, Matt Thompson, and Tim Duncan for bringing me on and giving me this opportunity. I look forward to setting a high standard of excellence for our student-athletes and helping them work towards it every day" said Hibbert.

Hibbert also spent year as a Professional Track & Field Team Intern for Hurdle Mechanic from May of 2019 to May of 2020. While at Hurdle Mechanic he oversaw practice setup, training and film breakdown under noted track coach Lawrence "Boogie" Johnson. Ben's group at Hurdle Mechanic included four Olympic Medalists, four World Medalists, and professional athletes from five different countries.

A former 2019 Big West All-Conference selection in the 4x100, Hibbert ran track at CSUN from 2018-2020. Not just a success on the track, Hibbert was three-time All-Academic Big West honoree (2018, 2019, 2020). During his time as a scholarship student-athlete for CSUN, Hibbert ran the 6th fastest 60 Hurdles time in program history – 8.03 at the 2000 New Mexico Team Open. As a graduate student at Indiana in 2021, Ben won the 60M Hurdles at Big Ten Open.

Hibbert earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Sports Studies from CSUN in 2020. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Dean's List from 2017-2020. A recipient of the Big Ten's post graduate scholarship, Ben earned his Master's of Science in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Sport and Coaching Science from Indiana with 4.0 GPA in May of 2022.

A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Ben now resides in New Orleans. Hibbert has two brothers, including a twin brother – Alex, who also ran track with him at CSUN.
