NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team is back at the Lakefront Arena for a two-game home stint. The Privateers will face league leaders, Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday and Northwestern State on Saturday. Tip times are scheduled for 5 and 1 p.m. respectively.
The Privateers battled against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but were ultimately defeated 58-45. The score was tied at half but the Islanders outscored New Orleans by 11 points in the third quarter to gain the separation needed after the first half saw nine lead changes.
Tara Green has been shooting efficiently from the field in this recent stretch. The West Helena, Ark. native has back-to-back games of double figures in points. In that stretch, Green is shooting 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the field. She had 11 points last Saturday against the Islanders.
Hennessey Luu-Brown continues to climb up the ranks in the steals category. Luu-Brown has nine consecutive games with a steal and is averaging 1.8 steals per game. That total ranks her eighth in the Southland. Teammate,
DeArica Pryor currently ranks second in the steals category.
Texas A&M-Commerce is the third opponent the Privateers will play for the first time in program history. New Orleans was 0-2 against first-time opponents in their Northeast swing against Rutgers and Hofstra.
New Orleans has also made a habit of turning other teams over. They forced 42 turnovers last week and eight opponents have committed 20 or more miscues this season. The Privateers are second in the Southland in turnovers forced with 19.3 per game.
The Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce are 5-0 in league play after a 2-10 non-conference slate. Four of those five wins have come by single digits and their most recent was a 57-52 triumph over Lamar last Saturday.
Dyani Robinson leads the Southland in points per game at 17.4. Robinson has only been held to single digits in points once this season.
Northwestern State is coming off a 76-64 victory over Nicholls on Saturday. The Lady Demons (7-8, 3-2) have won three straight but are only 1-6 in road games this season. Jasmin Dixon is second in the conference in blocks with 1.3 per game.
