NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will start play at the end of January as they both embark on the 2023 spring season. A combined 24 matches will take place at the Privateer Tennis Center in 2023.
The men's team will be defending their Southland regular season (shared) and postseason championship starting on Jan. 29 against North Alabama. It is the first of 12 home matches for a team that brings back most of their championship squad with six returners from last season.
Out of conference, the Privateers will face Loyola (N.O.), Atlantis University, Jackson State, Southern Miss, Alcorn State and West Alabama.
The men's squad will make their first road trip of the season when they spend a weekend in San Antonio where they will face two opponents. New Orleans will face UTSA on Feb. 3 and UC-Santa Barbara the following day on Feb. 4.
New Orleans also has two road matches at the end of February when they travel to South Alabama (Feb. 18) and LSU (Feb. 26).
The Privateers pick up a busy beginning of March where they will play five matches in eight days. That includes their Southland opener against Nicholls on Mar. 8 and two non-conference matches against Samford and Rice.
A Southland-heavy close to the season features six consecutive home matches with five against Southland opponents. New Orleans will host NJIT, Illinois-Chicago, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UIW and Lamar in that stretch.
The women's team, which has a completely new look with seven newcomers this season will also open against North Alabama at home on Jan. 29. Another home match comes two days later when they face Southern on Jan. 31.
The Privateer women also have 12 home matches this season and will play ULM, Loyola (N.O.), Atlantis, Jackson State, Alcorn State and West Alabama at home in their non-conference slate.
February begins with a match against a former conference foe from their Sun Belt days when the Privateers face ULM on Feb. 3. Three days later, New Orleans will make the short trip to play a road match against Tulane on Feb. 6.
The Privateers will head to Mobile to close out February with two matches against South Alabama and Troy.
The Southland opener takes place on Mar. 14 when the Privateers host Bryant. They will also host NJIT, Nicholls, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW.
New Orleans' road matches in conference are at McNeese, Lamar, Northwestern State and Southeastern. A home match against West Alabama on Apr. 11 precedes the Southland Tournament which will take place in Corpus Christi, Texas from Apr. 21-23.
