NEW ORLEANS, La.- The New Orleans (6-12, 3-4 SLC) men's basketball program will face Southeastern (11-9, 5-2 SLC) in back-to-back matchups beginning in Hammond Thursday night and ending on the Lakefront Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN + and NASH 106.1 FM with Jude Young calling the action.
As the Privateers enter week five of Southland Conference play, they are tied for seventh with UIW. New Orleans remains the conference leader in three-point percentage at 37.7 and had a season high 13 three-pointers at HCU to start conference play.
Jordan Johnson and Tyson Jackson are both averaging double figures in Southland Conference Play. Johnson, with a team-high 17.0 points per game, also leads New Orleans in field goals made (36-81), three pointers made (23-48), free-throws made (24-27), and assists (37) over seven games. Johnson leads the Southland in three-point percentage at .465 and has put up double-figures in six out of the last seven games.
Jackson is currently averaging 11.6 points per game and leads New Orleans in defensive rebounds (32). The junior has connected on 31 of his 41 field goals and put up two double-doubles in conference play.
Simeon Kirkland leads the Privateers in rebounds within conference play at 6.9 per game. Last week on the Lakefront, the senior scored a season-high and co-led his team with 15 points and nine rebounds in fall to Texas A&M – Commerce.
New Orleans averages 70.8 points per game on 45.4% shooting, including 37.7% from above the arc. Their opponents average 79.6 points per game on the year and hit 48.1% from the field, including 36.9% from outside the arc.
New Orleans leads the overall series against Southeastern 17-10, despite its fall to the Lions in a 74-65 elimination game at the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament.
Southeastern is coming off a 79-73 win over Texas A&M-Commerce, quickly getting back into the win column just two days after seeing its season-best four-game win streak end. Boogie Anderson, who missed Saturday's game against Texas A&M-Commerce, still leads Southeastern in scoring this season, averaging 12.5 points per game on 47.3% shooting.
On the season Southeastern averaged 77.3 points per game, hitting 44.5% of their shots this season, including 35.7% from above the three-point arc. SLU opponents average 76.8 points per game on 45.8% shooting and they hit 37.6% from outside the arc.
