GAME NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (3-13, 2-5) will get a double dose of Hammond when they face the Southeastern Lady Lions (10-7, 5-2). The teams will meet in Hammond on Thursday and New Orleans on Saturday.
This is the third time the Privateers will square off against the same opponent in back-to-back games since joining the Southland. The other two occurrences were against McNeese in consecutive seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16).
Hennessey Luu-Brown is averaging 12.7 points per game since Southland play started. The Canada native has gone for double figures in five of seven Southland games this season. She currently ranks tenth in Southland only games in scoring.
Tara Green's run also continued after she co-led the team with 17 points in their Saturday win against Northwestern State. Green went 7-of-11 from the field and improved her field goal percentage to .588 in her last seven games. That mark ranks second in the conference in that stretch.
The all-time series is in favor of New Orleans with a 28-23 advantage to the Privateers. However, there have been a lot of streaks in the series history. Both sides have combined to account for six separate winning streaks of at least five games. Southeastern is currently on a five-game winning streak against the Privateers including a 3-0 mark versus New Orleans last season.
Also of note are the block totals being on the rise. New Orleans is third in the league in blocks per game since Southland play started. Individually,
Justice Ross is fourth in the Southland in that same stretch with 1.4 blocks per contest.
Ross has also made a difference in distributing the ball. Her 3.2 assists rank third in conference play. She had 13 of the team's 38 assists in two games last week against Texas A&M-Commerce and Northwestern State.
Southeastern is currently in the standing they were selected to finish in before the season. The Lady Lions are in third place, one game out of first. Most recently, they slugged out a 46-42 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.
Alexius Horne is tied for sixth in the conference in scoring at 12.9 points per game. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions' scoring defense is tops in the league at 54.5 points per game allowed. Only one team (Utah) has scored more than 70 points against Southeastern this season.
