Three Privateers Take Home First Place Honors On The Final Day of IU Relays

FINAL RESULTS (PTTIMING) | FINAL RESULTS (PDF)

NEW ORLEANS – Vivette Green, Jayden Sloan, and Nicholaus Smith all home took home first place honors as the New Orleans Privateers Sprinters and Jumpers capped off an outstanding weekend at the 2023 IU Relays on Saturday afternoon.

Green got the Privateers rolling after finishing the women's 60 meters in 7.56 seconds – two one hundredths of a second faster than Alicia Burnett out the SEC's Missouri. Vivette shaved nine tenths of a second off of her qualifying time from Friday while notching the sixth victory of her collegiate career – three of them coming at 60 meters.

Sloan got the second Privateer victory of the morning with a 48.61 second time in the men's 400 meters. Jayden finished .24 seconds ahead of Ben Tilson out of Windsor. Today marked the ninth victory of his collegiate career, and the third at 400 meters – the Abilene, Texas native also owns a victory in the 400-meter hurdles back at the 2022 Warhawk Classic.

Smith, who finished just short of a podium finish in the Long Jump yesterday bounced back to win the triple jump with a jump of 14.20 meters. Entering the final jump of the competition in third place, Nick remained focused, and saved his best jump for last in the victory. It was the second triple jump victory of his career, along with last year's NJCAA Regionals.

ASSISTANT COACH BEN HIBBERT
"The group did exactly what we came to do this weekend. They put themselves in great spots and simply raced. They showed up when the moment called for it, and gave us some great momentum to ride as we turn towards the second half of this indoor season."

(on Vivette Green)
"
Vet executed a fantastic race. She put herself in a great place from the gun and then held her composure for her best time so far this season, and some great momentum moving into February."

(on Jayden Sloan)
"I thought Jayden competed really well today. We put a plan together and he put himself in all the right positions to get a big win on a competitive weekend."

(on Nicholaus Smith)
"Nick was a gamer this weekend. Putting together his best jump of the weekend in the final round to go from third to first and win the event. He refused to lose and I admire that in him."

It's the distance program's turn next week as they travel to the University of Boston for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite on Saturday Feb. 4 – live video of the meet will be available on FloTrack.com.
