Privateers Return Home to Face Lamar, HCU

GAME NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will return home for the first time in 22 days. The Privateers will square off against Lamar on Thursday at 5 p.m. and will host HCU in the return trip on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lakefront Arena.

The Privateers had four players in double figures but it wasn't enough in the conference opener, a 68-59 loss to HCU on New Year's Eve. Kyla Davis went for a season-high 12 points to lead all Privateers in scoring against the Huskies. All of her points came off three-pointers made.

New Orleans continues to crash the boards at a high rate. Their 14.4 offensive rebounds per game is tops in the Southland this season. That total also ranks 47th in the nation. Individually, Zoe Cooper is second in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.0).

It's the first time the Privateers are playing Lamar since January 2020. New Orleans won the last meeting 62-57 against the Cardinals who left for the WAC before returning ahead of this season. The Cardinals lead the all-time series 22-17.

DeArica Pryor has posted top marks in the conference this season. Her 29 points against the South Alabama is the highest single-game point total by any Southland player. Her eight assists vs. Mississippi Valley State are tied for the most in a game among Southland competitors.

New Orleans has also found success in turning teams over especially of late. Their 19.3 turnovers forced per game ranks second in the conference and 65th in the country.

Lamar won their conference opener in convincing fashion 82-61 over McNeese. The Cardinals (7-5, 1-0) hit 12 three-pointers and shot 54.5 percent from long range. Sabria Dean is second in the Southland in scoring (15.1 points per game) and first in minutes (36.6 minutes played per game).

HCU had four in double figures in the victory over the Privateers. The Huskies (6-6, 1-0) got 18 points from Julija Vujakovic. HCU also had a 15-6 advantage in free throws made for the contest and had 12 more attempts (21-9) at the charity stripe.
