Golf Wraps Up Fall Schedule Next Week at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS –
The University of New Orleans Golf squad will wrap up its fall campaign in Mathews, La. starting on Monday for the 2023 edition of the LaTOUR Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls.

The Privateers have played in four LaTOUR Intercollegiate tournaments previously. They finished in 8th place with a score of 913 in 2019, 11th place with a score of 867 in 2020, and in 12th place with a two round score of 604 in 2021.

Florian Moosmeier owns the lowest round by a Privateer at LaTOUR Golf Club after shooting a 66 during the final round in 2020, and Brady Bennett owns the best individual finish after tying for second place in 2021 with a 36-hole score of 139.

New Orleans also played at LaTOUR Golf Club in the single round LaTOUR Collegiate Challenge in 2019 and finished in fourth place with a score of 309. Jackson Smith finished tied for 8th with a score of 218 that afternoon.

The only current Privateer with competitive collegiate experience at LaTOUR is senior Thomas Artigas who finished tied for 38th as an independent golfer with a 36-hole score of 151 in 2021.

Entering the final tournament of the fall the Privateers have compiled a 30-26-1 (.545) record. New Orleans is a perfect 8-0 against Southland competition this season after finishing nine strokes ahead of UIW, 16 strokes ahead of HCU, 21 strokes ahead of Southeastern, and 48 strokes ahead of Nicholls at the Bubba Barnett.
 
Eight of UNO's 12 rounds have been under par this season including six of the last eight. The Privateers are averaging 284.8 this season – on pace to break the school scoring average record by five strokes.

FORMAT
The teams will play 54-holes over two days with two rounds of golf on Monday, and a final 18 holes on Tuesday morning. The event will use a shotgun start, with tee times at 8:30 a.m. both days. The Privateers will be paired with hosts Nicholls and HCU.

The following other schools are confirmed to compete in the event: Nicholls (hosts), HCU, Mobile, Prairie View A&M, Southeastern, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas-Southern, and UIW.

While no independent golfers will play for the Privateers, Nicholls is set to play four independent golfers, Stephen F. Austin is set to play two, and both HCU and Prairie View A&M are set to play one independent golfer each.

LAST TIME ON THE COURSE
New Orleans finished in seventh place at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate with a 9-under-par three round total of 855.It was the first tournament since the 2009 Squire Creek Invitational that every competing Privateer finished with a score below 220, and the first time since the 2005 Sam Hall Intercollegiate that every competing Privateer finished with a score below 218.

LAST TIME AT THE LaTOUR INTERCOLLEGIATE
Brady Bennett fought off windy and icy weather conditions and finished just shy of an individual championship at the 2021 LaTOUR Intercollegiate. Bennett led the for a portion of opening round before finishing his first 18 holes in second place. The Zachary native played even better during round two shooting a 4-under-par 68 and ultimately finishing tied for second with Mac Murphy of Louisiana Tech, two strokes shy of Sam Murphy also out of Louisiana Tech.
