NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team turns the page to a busy week with three matches on deck. New Orleans will host Southeastern on Tuesday before traveling to Texas A&M-Commerce (Thursday) and HCU (Saturday). The home match against Southeastern is slated for 6:30 p.m.
HALLOWEEN MATCH
Tuesday's match hearkens back to an old moniker for the Human Performance Center which was commonly known as the Chamber of Horrors. Entry will be free for all who wear a Halloween costume and there will be free candy bags for the first 20 fans.
PREVIEW
The Privateers were in another couple of tight sets on Saturday against McNeese but were ultimately defeated 3-0. New Orleans played their second set of extra rallies when they played to a 28-26 score against the Cowgirls in the second set.
Elani Ratchkovska had four total blocks in the match against McNeese. That total fell one shy of tying her season and collegiate best which she achieved against Southern Indiana. The Privateers collected two blocks per set against a McNeese team that's conceded the second fewest blocks in the Southland Conference.
In conference only matches,
Defne Eciroglu is sixth in the league in assists per set at 7.28. Eciroglu has three matches of 30 or more assists in her last seven contests.
Karen Cordero Barr ranks in the top ten in the Southland in kills per set and total points this season. Cordero has 210 kills in 70 sets played this season. She acquired her fifth double-double last Thursday against Northwestern State.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Southeastern enters the week a half game up on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the top spot in the conference standings. The Lady Lions are 11-1 on the year. Kailin Newsome is second in the Southland in kills and service aces. Gracie Duplechain leads the conference in assists per set at 10.37.
Texas A&M-Commerce sits sixth in the Southland standings entering the week at 5-6. The Lions are looking to rebound from an 0-2 week with losses against Nicholls and Southeastern. Jade Smith is second in the league in digs per set at 4.77.
HCU is in fourth place in the conference standings at 7-4. The Huskies survived a five-set thriller in their most recent triumph against UIW. Audrey Pearce is at 96 total blocks and ranks second in the conference in blocks per set at 1.13.
