Privateers Head to Starkville for Test Against Mississippi State

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will have their third straight 11 a.m. tip-off when they face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday at Humphrey Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.

The Privateers are coming off a tough opening week against Oklahoma State and Tulsa. In the season opener, New Orleans took Oklahoma State down to the wire in a single-digit loss. The Privateers held a hot-shooting Tulsa team in check for the first half but the Golden Hurricane pulled away in the second half.

DeArica Pryor went off for 40 points over the first two games for the Privateers. That included her 13th game of 20-plus points as a Privateer when she poured in 23 against Oklahoma State. She also added nine rebounds over the first two games.

Against Tulsa, Justice Ross went for a Privateer career-high 15 points and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Brianna Ellis was close to her first double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Ellis also added a career-high five steals.

New Orleans has been efficient from the free throw line in their first two games. They've connected on 82.5 percent of their free throws which ranks 21st in the nation. The Privateers are also 66th in the country in free throws made per game through the first week.

The Privateers controlled the early part of the series against Misssissippi State but the Bulldogs have won 11 in a row. Mississippi State leads the all-time series 12-3.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT

After going to the half only up by one, Mississippi State checked out in the third quarter by outscoring the Lions 24-8. They received the most votes of anyone not ranked in the latest AP Poll.

Through three games, the Bulldogs are 12th in the nation in fewest points allowed at 44.3 per game. Jerkaila Jordan has 10 steals through the first three games and ranks 19th in the nation in total steals. Jessika Carter has eight blocks on the young season.
