2024 TRACK AND FIELD SCHEDULE
NEW ORLEANS – Interim Head Coach
Ben Hibbert announced the 2024 schedules for the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field programs at the University of New Orleans on Wednesday morning.
For the sixth straight year things get underway just up I-10 in Baton Rouge at the LSU Purple Tiger on Jan. 12. It will be one of two trips to Carl Maddox Field House this season with the Privateers set to return to the capital for the LSU Twilight meet on Feb. 16.
Another familiar venue awaits the next week when New Orleans returns to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the Samford Invitational. For the first time the meet will take place over two days – Jan. 18 and 19.
For the second year in a row New Orleans will travel to Boston, Mass. for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite. The meet will be held at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center on Feb. 3 and will be streamed live on FloTrack.
Perhaps the highlight of the indoor season comes on Feb. 9-10 when the Privateers will travel the full team to Nashville, Tenn for Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge. The event will feature some of the top programs from across the southeast, and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
Championship season begins in February when New Orleans returns to the Birmingham CrossPlex for another shot at the Southland Conference Championships on 23
rd and 24
th. The meet will be shown live on ESPN+.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place on March 8-9 at The TRACK at new balance at Boston Landing in Brighton, Mass. To qualify a student-athlete must have a top-16 mark in an event nationally.
The Outdoor campaign kicks off with a trip to Ruston for the Jim Mize Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech and former Privateer Head Coach Brian Johnson on March 15-16.
New Orleans will make two more trips to LSU during the Outdoor season with the first coming on March 23 for a new meet – the Keyth Talley Invitational. The event honors former three-time All-American sprinter Keyth Talley who ran for LSU in 2011 and 2012 and passed away in 2019 at the age of 29.
The biggest meet of the season takes place on March 27-30 when a selection of the team will head to Austin, Texas for the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The multi-day meet featuring the top programs and individual athletes from across the country will air live on the Longhorn Network.
April kicks off with a trip to beautiful Oxford, Miss. for the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by Ole Miss on April 5-6. The Privateer sprinters will return to Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge on April 20 for the LSU Alumni Gold event. Like last season with the sprinters in Baton Rouge, New Orleans will split the squad and send the distance program to Houston, Texas for the J. Fred Duckett at Twilight.
The Southland Outdoor Championships will take place from May 2-4 at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on the campus of UIW. The Southland Outdoor Championships will be shown live on ESPN+.
Student-Athletes with a top 48 mark in the NCAA will qualify for the NCAA East Regional on May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. The NCAA Outdoor Championships take place from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. Both will be streamed live on ESPN+.
INTERIM HEAD COACH BEN HIBBERT
"I think this year's schedule will offer great opportunities to compete at a high level for a team that is very much ready to do so. Indoors we have a good balance of familiar trips and new places, where we'll get the chance to see some different teams and compete against some high-level athletes. Outdoor season will provide a great slate of competition that should set us up well as we move towards Conference and NCAA time. Each time we step on the track, in the ring, or on the runway it will be a challenge, and that is exactly the way we like it!"
