GAME NOTES
HOUSTON – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team, fresh off their home opening victory, will hit the road again when they take on the Houston Cougars. The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip on ESPN Plus at the Fertitta Center.
The Privateers had a strong defensive performance in their victory over Alcorn State on Tuesday, which was also the first Division I win for Head Coach Trelanne Powell. New Orleans held the Lady Braves to 42 points, which was tied for the lowest point total allowed since Jan. 8, 2020 when they held Central Arkansas to 37. New Orleans allowed the Lady Braves to shoot just 27.6 percent from the field.
Alexis Calderon established Privateer highs in points, rebounds, steals and assists. She went for 14 points, six boards, four steals and four assists. Calderon had her first double-digit scoring output in a Privateer uniform after collecting nine at her previous stop (Labette JC).
The win for the Privateers continued their trend in home openers. New Orleans has won every home opener in the regular season dating back to 2015.
Through four games this season, the Privateers have a positive turnover differential. They've forced 19.3 turnovers per game while committing 17.5 turnovers per contest. The Privateers currently rank fifth in the Southland in steals per game.
New Orleans and Houston have only played each other once in 2017 as part of the Preseason Women's NIT. Houston scored a 78-66 win against the Privateers at the Lakefront Arena that season.
