NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team returns home for just their second game at the Lakefront Arena when they face the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and the game will be carried on ESPN Plus.
The Privateers could not overcome an early double-digit deficit as they lost 80-63 against South Alabama.
Jayla Kimbrough had a career night with new highs in points (19) and rebounds (8).
Alexis Calderon and
DeArica Pryor also went for double-figures as they scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
Calderon became the second Privateer to play all 40 minutes in a game this season. Pryor logged every minute in the season opener against Oklahoma State.
Zoe Cooper is tenth in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (2.0). That comes on the heels of Cooper being fifth in that category last season. Cooper had a season-high nine rebounds in the Privateers' game against South Alabama.
The Privateers will be hosting Louisiana in a women's basketball game for the first time since 2013. In 33 career meetings in the Big Easy, the Privateers are 21-12 against the Ragin' Cajuns. All-time, New Orleans is 45-28 against the Cajuns but Louisiana has won the last eight meetings entering Saturday.
Nora Francois recently made her return from injury in the home opener against Alcorn State. In three games, Francois has logged a total of 36 minutes and has scored 18 points.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Louisiana (2-2) is coming off two non-Division I games that counted as exhibitions. The Cajuns beat Xavier (La.) 64-40 and Loyola 76-47. Their last game that counted toward the standings was a 69-63 overtime win against Nicholls.
Tamera Johnson is averaging near a double-double. She leads the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game and is 38
th in the nation in rebounding at 9.8 boards per game. As a team, the Cajuns are 34
th in the country in free throw attempts per game (22.5).
