Privateers Continue Late Season Push With Two Road Games

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team takes to the road looking to keep the momentum going as they take on the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and the Northwestern State Lady Demons. The Privateers will travel to Commerce on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Northwestern State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

New Orleans went 2-0 last week in the most critical of moments to keep their late season push for the conference tournament on track. The Privateers earned wins over Nicholls on the road and McNeese at home.

Fifth through ninth place in the standings are separated by just a game heading into the week. The Privateers could own a tiebreak outright over Northwestern State with a win on Saturday. A win Thursday means a season split between New Orleans and Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Privateers scored a 65-59 win over McNeese on Saturday. It was the 11th time Coach Keeshawn Davenport has beaten the Cowgirls. That ties McNeese with Northwestern State and Southeastern as the teams she has the most wins against.

Single digit quarters have been a calling card for the Privateers and their defense overall has been equally as tremendous of late. The Privateers have limited opponents to less than 40 percent from the field in four of the last five games. In that same stretch, the Privateers have allowed less than 10 points in a quarter five times.

Nora Francois posted her second double-digit rebounding game and her first double-double as a Privateer in the last outing. Francois posted 14 points and 10 rebounds. She enters the week as the leading rebounder on the team (5.5 RPG).

After a hot start, Texas A&M-Commerce (10-14, 8-4) has leveled off. The Lions are 2-4 in their last six games as they have missed Dyani Robinson who was injured eight games ago and has not returned since. The Lions rallied to defeat New Orleans 74-69 in the first meeting at Lakefront Arena.

Northwestern State (10-13, 6-7) ended a three-game losing skid with a 71-66 win against Texas A&M-Commerce last Saturday. The Lady Demons are 9-2 at home this season. Candice Parramore has scored in double figures in seven straight games and has played more than 35 minutes in six of those contests.
