NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will each head to Mobile to face the South Alabama Jaguars on Friday. First serve for both matches is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.
MEN'S SQUAD LOOKS TO BUILD OFF BACK-TO-BACK WINS
New Orleans (3-2) scored a pair of 7-0 wins in the previous week when they defeated Loyola and Jackson State by 7-0 score lines. All three wins this season have been sweeps.
Doubles teams have been gold for the Privateers this season. Through five matches, New Orleans is 13-1 in doubles decisions. Mathew Armbruster and
Karim Al-Amin are 5-0 between two different flights this season.
In singles, Al-Amin leads all Privateers with four wins while playing between flight two and three. The freshman has won three of those matches in straight sets.
New Orleans is looking to turn their recent fortune around against South Alabama. The men have lost three straight against South Alabama. The last win against the Jaguars occurred in 2009. South Alabama won 5-2 last season.
South Alabama (5-4) has already had a busy spring with a tough stretch of matches. The Jaguars' last was a 5-2 loss to Florida State on Feb. 10.
WOMEN'S TEAM TAKES TO ROAD FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
The New Orleans women (5-1) will be playing their second road match of the season. The Privateers are also coming off wins against Loyola and Jackson State in the last week.
The Privateers have also been strong in doubles, posting a collective 11-3 mark this season.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and Ksenia Reznistkaya are 4-0 on the season which includes a doubles win against Tulane.
Didi Bredberg Canizares and
Raluca Puscas are 4-1 on the year.
In singles, Bredberg is 4-0 on the season. Her last match against Jackson State finished after two games when her opponent retired from the match. Bredberg has not dropped a set in singles this season.
The women lost 5-2 in their meeting last season against South Alabama. The Jaguars have won seven straight in the series dating back to 2004.
South Alabama (6-0) pulled off a 4-3 win against Tulane in their most recent match on Feb. 12. The Jaguars will also be facing Southeastern on Saturday.
On a scheduling note, the women's match against Troy has been postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
