NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team returns home on Wednesday when they face the Loyola Wolfpack. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Privateers are coming off a tough weekend against stiff competition. New Orleans (1-2) lost both matches against UTSA and UC-Santa Barbara but had several individual highlights that dotted the weekend.
Marcel Volz and
Espen Lagarde had a win over the #6 doubles team in the country. Meanwhile, the Privateers doubles tandems combined to go an unblemished 6-0 over the weekend against the Roadrunners and the Gauchos.
Karim Al-Amin and
Luke Joujan also picked up singles wins over the weekend in third set tiebreaks. Joujan was making his singles debut for the 2023 season when he beat UC-Santa Barbara's Kai Brady 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10).
New Orleans has played Loyola 10 times since 2011. In that stretch, the Privateers have lost just one point in a 6-1 victory in 2019. The Privateers swept the Wolfpack 7-0 on Feb. 10, 2022.
Loyola was picked fourth in the preseason SSAC poll. They returned all of their singles rotation from last season. Francisco Javier Arce Vieyra and Remus Hebhang-Balan were First Team All-Conference selections in 2022.
