Privateers to Face Foes Nicholls and McNeese on the Road and at Home

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The New Orleans Privateers (6-16, SLC 3-8) gear up for another crucial week of Southland play against Nicholls (11-11, SLC 6-4) and McNeese (5-19, SLC 2-9). New Orleans will make the short trip to Thibodaux Thursday to face the Colonels at 7 p.m. in Stopher Gym and return home to host the Cowboys Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN + and NASH 106.1 FM with Jude Young and Tic Price calling the action.

Last week, a shorthanded New Orleans team fell short in a 78-70 loss to UIW. Tyson Jackson led the Privateers with 16 points, and the Privateers outscored the Cardinals in the paint 36-26. New Orleans remains the conference leader in three-point percentage at 39.0 percent.

Jackson is averaging 11.4 points per game and shoots 66 percent from the field at 50-of-75 in conference games only. He is also fourth in the Southland in double-doubles with two of the four this season against non-conference teams.
Marquez Cooper and D'ante Bell notched career bests against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Thursday. Cooper led the Privateers with 21 points and Bell put up 11 points in his return to the court.
The Privateers will face both the Colonels and the Cowboys for the first time this season. New Orleans leads the series 20-17 against Nicholls, and both teams won on their homecourts in the last two matchups. The Colonels scored an 85-92 victory at Stopher Gym, and the Privateers won 78-66 at Lakefront Arena.
Marek Nelson finished with 23 points for the Colonels in their 92-91 win over Houston Christian last week. Nicholls is a game out of first place and are currently 7-0 at home.
The Privateers are 19-9 all-time against McNeese. New Orleans won three of the four meetings last season. Head Coach Mark Slessinger is 13-6 all-time against McNeese.
The Cowboys will host first place Southeastern Louisiana Thursday, and they sit at tenth in the conference. Christian Shumate leads the team in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (9.2) and is ranked second in the SLC with eight double-doubles.
