Women's Basketball to Face In-State Foes, Nicholls and McNeese

GAME NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team hits the court for two more crucial games this week. The Privateers will start the week with a short trip to Thibodaux to face Nicholls at 5 p.m. The Privateers then return home to face McNeese on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Saturday's game against McNeese will be our Play 4 Kay game. Play4Kay was established in 2007 to celebrate cancer survivors and fundraise for the fight against all forms of cancer affecting women.

New Orleans (4-16, 3-8) fell just short in their most recent outing, a 50-45 loss to UIW last Saturday at the Lakefront Arena. Three Privateers scored in double figures and Tara Green notched her second double-double in a Privateer uniform with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Green is shooting 54.7 percent in 75 attempts from the field since Southland play started. That mark ranks third in conference only games. The only players ahead of Green are Akasha Davis (Lamar) and Divine Tanks (McNeese).

DeArica Pryor's steals total continues to rank highly in the national scope. Pryor is averaging 2.7 steals per game which ranks first in the Southland and 22nd in the nation. In her last six games, Pryor has recorded 22 steals. Last week, Pryor had nine steals against A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW.

New Orleans will be playing both teams for the first time this season. The Privateers are 27-24 all-time against Nicholls. Both teams won on each other's home floor last year. The Colonels scored a 69-68 victory at Lakefront Arena and the Privateers won 72-67 at Stopher Gym.

The Privateers are 23-16 all-time against McNeese. The Cowgirls swept both meetings last season, winning each game by 11 points. Coach Keeshawn Davenport is 10-8 all-time against McNeese.

Nicholls (4-17, 1-9) is trying to dig their way out of the bottom of the league standings. The Colonels are led by Kyla Hamilton who paces the Southland in assists (4.1) and Lexi Alexander who is the league's second leading shot blocker at 1.4 rejections per game.

McNeese (9-13, 6-5) has gone 5-2 in their last seven games. Their most recent contest was a 75-67 win against Texas A&M-Commerce. The Cowgirls do not have a player averaging double figures. However, six Cowgirls are averaging between 7.9 and 9.8 points per game.
