Men's Tennis Heads to Rice for Ralph O'Connor Invitational

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will participate in the Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational this weekend when they play a pair of matches against Samford and Rice on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches will take place at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Live video will be available here

New Orleans (6-4) defeated Nicholls to open Southland play earlier this week. The Privateers pulled off their fifth 7-0 sweep of the season in the win. New Orleans only dropped two sets as a unit in singles play against the Colonels.

Lilian Dubois enters the weekend on a six-match winning streak. The true freshman has been a steady presence, garnering a 7-1 record in singles. He has also teamed up with Espen Lagarde after Marcel Volz's early season injury. Lagarde and Dubois have four doubles wins.

New Orleans has won 66.7 percent of their singles matches. Karim Al-Amin, another true freshman as is Dubois, co-leads the squad in wins with seven. Max Heinzel follows closely behind with six wins this season.

The Privateers will be playing a fourth opponent who was in the ITA Rankings at the time of the match. Rice is ranked #71 in the latest poll released earlier this week.

New Orleans hasn't played Samford since 2010. The Bulldogs won that matchup 6-1. New Orleans played Rice last February and the Owls took that match 6-1.

Rice (6-7) defeated nationally ranked New Mexico 4-3 in their latest bout. The Owls have only played three of their 13 matches at home. Emir Sendogan is 9-3 in dual play this season to lead the team.

Samford (7-5) has won three straight matches against UNC-Greensboro, The Citadel and Youngstown State. Maxwell Giddens and Darcy Nicholls both have seven singles wins this spring.
