NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will take to the court to face the NJIT Highlanders on Wednesday at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve for the match is set for 2 p.m.
New Orleans (7-5) is coming off a 1-1 weekend at the Ralph O'Connor Invitational. The Privateers defeated Samford 4-1 and then lost to the host and #71 ranked Rice Owls 4-0 on Sunday. It was the fourth team in the ITA Top 75 the Privateers have faced this season.
Karim Al-Amin is 8-2 on the season and is on a four-match winning streak. His match against Rice's Emir Sendogan went unfinished. In his last four matches prior, Al-Amin did not drop a set. Four of those sets have gone Al-Amin's way with two games or fewer conceded.
In doubles, New Orleans has won nearly 68 percent of their matches this season. Al-Amin and
Matthew Armbruster are 9-1 this season.
Luke Joujan and
Max Heinzel have won six matches while paired together.
New Orleans will be at home for the remainder of the season but for their season finale at Alcorn State. The Privateers will face all remaining Southland opponents at the Privateer Tennis Center where they are 5-0 on the year.
Though NJIT is part of the Southland as an affiliate member, the match will not count as a Southland contest since the Highlanders are not playing a full conference schedule.
NJIT (12-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 4-3 win against Bryant in their last outing. The Highlanders' only defeat came at the hands of Yale on Mar. 3.
Wil Jenkins and Pablo Perez Ramos are both 11-1 on the season in singles. Ramos has won all of his matches at flight one. Ramos and Josh Smith have combined for a 9-1 record in doubles at flight one.
