NEW ORLEANS – Women's long jumper
Alimot Alowonle finished in second place, while
Kelvin Chiku (800M),
Mathilde Helms-Kjaer (3K),
Mason Melancon (100M),
Evan Pardo (3K),
Nicholaus Smith (triple jump) and
Alexandra Weir (800M) all took home third place finishes in a competitive outing for the University of New Orleans Track and Field team on Saturday at the Battle of the Bayou.
The New Orleans women's 4x100 team got Saturday morning off to a record-breaking start.
Trinity Bracey,
Vivette Green,
Helen Baumgarten and Alowonle set a new school record with a time of 45.66 – breaking the previous mark of 46.00 set in 2015.
Once again Alowonle was impressive for the Privateers. In addition to helping set the new school record, Ali' finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.86m in her final attempt. Later in the afternoon she finished fifth in the 200M with a time of 24.41. The freshman's long jump is best in the Southland this season, while her time in the 200M is fourth in the league.
Melancon's time of 10.48 in the 100M earned him third place and is the second-best mark in the Southland this season.
Christopher Murphy finished in fifth place with a time of 10.52 – the third best mark in the league this season, while
Elliott Cummings finished a shade behind Murphy with a time of 10.53 – the fourth best time in the Southland this season.
Chiku's third place finish in the 800M came following a mark of 1:50.34 – the best time in the Southland this season.
Cade Litolff finished five seconds behind him in 13
th place with a time of 1:55.52 – the fourth best mark on the Southland's performance list this season.
Weir and
Tshwanelo Maruping took home third and fourth respectively in the 800M. Weir finished with a time of 2:11:17, while Maruping finished right behind her in 2:12.64. Alexandra's time is the best in the Southland this season, while Nelo's time is third.
Despite fouls on four of his six attempts Smith managed a top three finish in the triple jump. His fifth jump was 14.66m – the second best ever by a Privateer, and just .02 meters shy of his record-breaking jump at the Louisiana Classics last week. Nicholaus remains the Southland leader in the triple jump this season.

New Orleans Track and Field splits up next week for a pair of meets. Select members of the squad will travel to Austin, Texas for the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from March 29 - April 1. Others will head to San Marcos, Texas for the Bobcat Invitational from March 30 - April 1.
