Men's and Women's Tennis to Host Texas A&M-CC, UIW

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will play a busy week of conference matches when they both host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW on Thursday and Saturday. Matches will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days at the Privateer Tennis Center.

MEN'S PREVIEW
New Orleans (9-5, 2-0) has put together strong performances in conference play. The Privateers own wins over Nicholls and UIC. Only one point has been conceded in those matches. The Privateers also beat Southland affiliate member, NJIT 5-2 in a match that did not count toward conference standings.

The Privateers continue to show their muscle in doubles with a combined record of 25-11 and a winning percentage of .694. Matthew Armbruster and Karim Al-Amin have been almost unbeatable with an 11-1 mark this season.

In singles, the depth of this team has shown with five guys recording between seven and nine wins in New Orleans' 14 matches this spring. That includes a rugged schedule of four nationally ranked opponents.

Espen Lagarde has caught fire of late as he is on a five-match winning streak. Lagarde has only lost one set in that span and he was on the verge of victory against his opponent from Rice (leading 7-5, 5-3) when the match was clinched.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12-6, 0-1) has won three straight matches against in-state foes. They defeated Our Lady of the Lake 4-0 twice and UT-Arlington 4-2 in their most recent match. Mathieu Peres (12), Nathan Schwartz (11) and Avery Zavala (10) have all eclipsed double-digit wins this spring.

UIW (12-3, 0-0) have suffered all three of their losses against Power Five schools in Baylor, Oklahoma and Utah. Noah de Luna is undefeated in singles play this season with a mark of 10-0. Joao Sasso is 8-1 between flights one and two this year.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The New Orleans women (7-5, 0-2) will look to get on the mark in conference play after a pair of tough results. The Privateers lost a marathon match against Nicholls and were defeated by McNeese in their most recent outing.

The Privateers have been strong in doubles this year with a 22-9 collective record to date. New Orleans won the doubles point against McNeese and have won the first point of the match in four consecutive contests.

Didi Bredberg Canizares leads the Privateers with eight wins in singles this season. Following close behind is Kateryna Kalistratova who has seven victories this season.

The women's team has been tough at home this season with a 7-1 mark at the Privateer Tennis Center entering the week.

The Islander women (15-2, 2-0) are on a run of four straight victories. Their only losses were to Rice and Houston. Kateryna Rublevska is 11-1 across three flights this season. As a team, the Islanders have won almost 83 percent of their singles matches.

The UIW women (11-5, 2-0) swept through their last conference weekend when they defeated Northwestern State and Southeastern. The Cardinals have an undefeated doubles tandem in Brandelyn Fulgenzi and Estefania Gonzalez who are 11-0 this spring.
