New Orleans Beach Journey Ends in Semifinal Loss to Boise State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. - The No.4 New Orleans beach volleyball program's journey comes to an end in a 3-2 loss to No.3 Boise State in the Southland Conference tournament semifinal at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Monday afternoon. The Privateers concluded the season with a 21-17 record.
Kicking off competition were the twos and fours. Seniors Alexa Spartz and Trinity Jackson, who went undefeated in the SLC tournament, got their 28th win in straight sets over the Broncos to give the Privateers their first point. On court four, the Broncos overcame juniors Ivana de Peixe Carvahlo and Serena Baumgart in straight sets.
Tied at one, senior Ania Esarte and freshman Maria Ozaeta went to three and came out on top to give New Orleans the 2-1 lead. After senior Rita Zecchin and freshman Valentina Echeverri dropped two sets to the Broncos at court five, the teams were tied again.
It all came down to court three where seniors Valerie Vujnovich and Hannah Volpi fought their way out of a one set deficit to win the second set. Unable to secure the win in the third set, Boise State took the overall victory to advance to the championship match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
