Privateers Travel to Louisville for Bellarmine Volleyball Classic

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team heads to Louisville to take part in the Bellarmine Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Privateers will play Bellarmine, Murray State and Southern Indiana all at Knights Hall.

The match against Bellarmine will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will take place on Friday at 12:30 PM EST.
 
New Orleans went 1-2 in the opening weekend as they closed with a straight set victory against South Carolina State. 15 of the 20 players on the roster appeared in a match for the Privateers during opening weekend and eight made their Privateer debut.
 
Karen Cordero Barr earned a spot on the GSU Invitational All-Tournament Team for her performance during the three matches. Cordero led the squad in kills with 32 and contributed 19 digs along with four service aces.
 
Claire Turner averaged seven assists per set for the Privateers. Vera Beltrame also contributed 45 total assists on the weekend and had two double-doubles against Chattanooga and South Carolina State.
 
From the middles, Ava Kennon and Sydney Gott provided high efficiency in their attempts. The true freshman, Kennon hit .410 in 39 attempts and had 20 kills. Gott, a senior on the squad, finished the first weekend with a .500 hitting percentage in 34 attempts and added 19 kills.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Bellarmine went 0-3 in their opening weekend. Natalie Bland and Bailey Venard combined for 54 of the team's 102 kills. The Knights are in their final year of transitioning to Division I.
 
Murray State overcame a five-set loss against Cleveland State in their season opener to defeat Tennessee State and Western Illinois in the Leatherneck Classic. David Schwepker is in his 25th season at the helm of the Racers and is the winningest coach in program history at 384 victories.
 
Southern Indiana lost a midweek tilt against Evansville after going 1-2 in their opening weekend. The Screaming Eagles' lone win was against Radford. Leah Anderson has piled up 53 kills in the first four matches of the season.
