Privateers Continue to be Ranked in the USTFCCCA South Central Polls

OFFICIAL USTFCCCA RELEASE: MENWOMEN

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams continue to earn respect from the United States Track & Field / Cross Country Coaches Association with the release of their Week 1 rankings on Monday afternoon.

Fresh off a solid finish at the Southern Showcase the Privateer women remain No. 11 for the second straight poll. The New Orleans women are ranked ahead of Houston, Central Arkansas, Arkansas State, and UTSA. They are the only team from the Southland Conference ranked this week and have been regionally ranked for 13 straight polls dating back to Oct. 18, 2021.

UNO's women finished in 10th place out of 35 teams. Rebecca DeKay led the way in 44th place with a time of 17:49.8, with Alexandra Weir finishing just outside the top-50 with a 52nd place finish in 17:56.8. Seven of the Privateer women finished instead the top-100 of a field featuring 325 competitors. Oxana Bonjorn-Giros set a new personal best by almost a minute, with Tshwanelo Maruping and Holly Hedrick also setting new personal bests in Huntsville.

The Privateer men check in at No. 12 in week one rankings, one spot lower than their preseason ranking of No. 11. The New Orleans men are ranked ahead of Stephen F. Austin, LSU, and fellow Southland school Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Out of the Southland Conference McNeese is ranked No. 9, while UIW moved up two spots from No. 7 to No. 5. The New Orleans men have been ranked for 18-straight weeks dating all the way back to February of 2020.

UNO's men also finished in 10th place at the Southern Showcase over the weekend. Freshman Matthew Hansen paced the Privateer men for the second straight meet after finishing his 8k in 24:36.6 – good for 30th place. Hansen's time is 12th in school history at 8K. Evan Pardo finished 46th with a personal best 24:50.2. Hansen, Pardo, Cade Litolff, and Kelvin Chiku all finished in the top-100 of a field that had over 300 competitors.
