NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team starts a busy week on Tuesday when they take the short trip to Hammond to face the Southeastern Lady Lions. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Privateers return home on Thursday to face the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions then head to Beaumont on Saturday for a bout with the Lamar Cardinals.
New Orleans opened conference play with a competitive match where the first two sets went down to the wire against Northwestern State. The Privateers then suffered a defeat at the hands of McNeese on Saturday.
Lani Alleman led the Privateers with 12 digs on Saturday against McNeese. It was the fifth time in the last eight matches the true freshman went for 10 or more digs. The 12 digs tied her season and career high which she also notched against Southern on Sept. 9.
Karen Cordero Barr registered 25 kills over the first two matches of Southland play. That included 18 kills against Northwestern State. Cordero ranks eighth in the Southland in total points (141) heading into the week.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Southeastern was the Southland Tournament Champion in 2022, their first in program history. The Lady Lions were also undefeated at home (14-0). Kailin Newsome leads a potent Southeastern offense with 196 kills. That number also paces the conference.
Texas A&M-Commerce had a signature win over Alabama in non-conference play. It was their first win ever against an SEC school. The Lions grabbed their first conference win of the season by outlasting Lamar in five sets. Deja Benjamin is hitting .346, which ranks second in the Southland.
Lamar is still looking to find their footing after a difficult start to the year. The Cardinals are in search of their first win of the season (0-13) heading into the week. Lyric Jordan is one of four players in the conference who is averaging at least 3.0 kills per set.
