HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will have another split week where they play a road and home game. The Privateers (5-10, 2-2) start out on the road at HCU on Thursday before returning to the Lakefront Arena to face Northwestern State on Saturday. Tip times are set for 6 and 2 p.m. respectively and both games will be carried on ESPN Plus.
The Privateers are coming off a 1-1 week. It started when New Orleans defeated Nicholls 69-63 last Thursday for their first conference road opening win since the 1999-2000 season. That was followed by a 61-54 loss against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where the Privateers held the Islanders to 29 percent shooting and forced 25 turnovers.
DeArica Pryor is continuing her march to 1,000 career points after she scored 34 last week. Pryor upped her career total to 961 points. 858 of those have come at New Orleans. Pryor is currently averaging 12.4 points per game which would put her on track to accomplish 1,000 points just on the Lakefront by the end of the regular season.
Alexis Calderon is 42
nd in the nation and first in the Southland in steals per game at 2.5. Calderon has 12 steals through the first four conference games. In her first season on the Lakefront, Calderon has 38 total steals through 15 games.
New Orleans is 4-8 against HCU and the Huskies have won the last three meetings. The Privateers are 15-14 against Northwestern State but the Privateers have dominated the series lately, winning nine of the last 11 meetings.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
HCU (5-10, 0-4) is still searching for their first conference victory. The Huskies have lost three of their four conference games by double digits. N'Denasija Collins is in the top five in the Southland in points and rebounds. Enya Maguire has 25 made three-pointers, third-most in the conference.
Northwestern State also enters the week with a 2-2 record in conference play (6-9 overall). The Lady Demons lost their most recent game, a 63-57 decision at home against UIW. Sharna Ayers leads the league in three pointers made (37) and attempted (102).
