LAMAR NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will play a pair of road games this week. First up is a battle against a top three team in the standings in the Lamar Cardinals on Thursday at 7 p.m. Then, the Privateers will head to Lake Charles to face the McNeese Cowgirls on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will be carried on ESPN Plus.
The Privateers are coming off a 72-43 loss against Northwestern State last Saturday. In that game,
Nahja Scott set new career-highs in points (18) and free throws made (10). Scott became the fourth current Privateer to make double-digit free throws in a game, joining
DeArica Pryor,
Brianna Ellis and
Alexis Calderon.
Pryor enters the week needing 23 more points to reach 1,000 for her collegiate career. At just New Orleans, Pryor has 874 points. She scored 103 at Creighton.
Since Southland play started three weeks ago, the Privateers have held opponents to 37.4 percent from the field. Four of the six opponents have not reached 40 percent against New Orleans' defense. The Privateers have also forced the most turnovers (113) since Southland play started.
Justice Ross has registered five blocks in the last two games. That gives her 22 total rejections for the season, leader on the team and second in the Southland. Only Nabaweeyah McGill of A&M-Corpus Christi has more blocks on the season with 28.
Lamar had beaten New Orleans the first eight times the two teams hooked up since the Privateers joined the Southland but lately it's the Privateers who have had success in the series with three consecutive triumphs. The Privateers and McNeese split the two regular season meetings. The Cowgirls beat New Orleans in the opening round of the Southland Tournament last season in overtime.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Lamar (11-5, 5-1) is allowing just 57.7 points per game this season. They are also statistically the best shooting team in the conference (42.6 percent from the field). Individually, Sabria Dean and Akasha Davis are second and third respectively in the conference in points per game. Davis is also dominating the boards. She has 9.4 rebounds per game and her 4.1 offensive rebounds per game are way ahead of second place Olivia Russell from A&M-Commerce (2.4 per game).
McNeese (4-15, 0-6) is still searching for their first win of the Southland slate and their first Division I win. Their victories are over Dillard, North American, Ecclesia and Centenary. Emilia Tenbrock leads the Southland in scoring at 16.0 points per game. Tenbrock is shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from three-point range and 86.4 percent from the free throw line. Tenbrock has scored 123 points in the last five games, which included a 40-point output against A&M-Commerce.

And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day. Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
