NEW ORLEANS – Four University of New Orleans cross country runners set personal bests on Friday morning at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Two weeks after setting a new school record at four miles,
Josh Johnston led the Privateer men with a 91
st place finish out of 368 competitors. His time of 24:05.7 was the fourth fastest time in school history, and good for third on the school's all-time performance list. Johnston ran a steady race moving past 13 runners at the 2K split, five runners at the 4.5K split, and 10 runners at the 5.6K mark.
Mason Appleton and
Antonio Delgado set new personal bests on Friday as well. Appleton's time of 24:42.2 was an almost 42 second improvement on his time from last season's Southland Championships. Delgado's time of 26:05.2 was a 43 second improvement on his time from last season's Southern Showcase. Appleton's time also ranks No. 8 on the school's performance list.
Gary Sandrock finished in 25:33.7, and
Kenneth Cerrato finished in 27:18.8 in his collegiate cross country debut.
Like Johnston,
Emma Bourg also set the fourth-fastest time at 6K for the Privateer women. The sophomore finished 86
th out of 394 women after clocking in at 20:51.3. Bourg finished strong passing 27 runners after the 4.1K mark to finish inside the top 100 runners. Her time on Friday was a personal best by 51.5 seconds, and ranks third on UNO's all-time performance list.
Sophia Wolf finished in 21:17.2,
Petra Imre finished in 21:54.6,
Oxana Bonjorn-Giros set a new personal best with a time of 21:59.4 – a new personal best by 25 seconds – and
Annika Metzger finished in 22:01.6 to round out the top 200 finishes for the Privateer women.
The New Orleans women finished 28
th overall with a score of 706, while the men finished 34
th with a score of 960.
New Orleans hosts the Southland Conference Championships on Nov. 1 at Lake Oaks Park. The women's 6K will start at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 8k to follow at 9:30 a.m. Fans can watch all the action on ESPN+, or follow @PrivateersTFXC on
