SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team with a week in between matches, now heads to San Antonio for a meeting against the UIW Cardinals on Saturday. The match will be carried on ESPN+.
New Orleans notched their first set victory in conference play when they took the second set against Lamar. The Privateers got out to a 10-1 advantage and held off multiple Cardinal rally attempts to take the set 26-24.
Heading into Saturday's match, two Privateers have played every set this season.
Defne Eciroglu has appeared in all 70 sets and has 307 assists. Eciroglu has started 18 of the 21 matches to date for New Orleans in her sophomore year.
Courtney Roundtree has also played every set and leads the team in kills and blocks. Roundtree added to her total with 15 kills and a .419 attack percentage against Lamar last Saturday. Roundtree also has a block in 19 of 21 matches this season.
The Privateers beat UIW 3-2 in the first round of the Southland Tournament. It was their first conference tournament win in the Southland since joining in 2013-14. UIW leads 10-6 and is 4-1 in San Antonio. 7 of the 16 meetings have gone 5 sets.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UIW is standing at 11-7 overall with a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Cardinals have back-to-back conference victories after beating Nicholls and McNeese. The Cardinals have four student-athletes with between 149 and 165 kills: Kyla Malone, Risa Sena, Finley Evans and Calissa Allison.
Audrey Patton leads the back row in digs with 179 on the season (2.79 per set). Kade Thomas has 73 total blocks (16 solo) on the year.
