NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team will wrap up the regular season with a pair of road matches this week. A trip to Natchitoches to face Northwestern State is up first on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Privateers then travel to East Texas A&M on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Only the Northwestern State match will be carried on ESPN+.
The Privateers are coming off a match where they snagged a set in a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In the third set, New Orleans posted an attack percentage of .389 and converted on their third attempt at set point.
In 36 attempts during that third set, the Privateers had 15 kills and on error. It was their highest attack percentage in a set since the fifth set against Alcorn on Sept. 14 when New Orleans hit at a .409 clip.
Courtney Roundtree has been a constant in the Privateers' lineup throughout the season. She has started all 26 matches and played all 86 sets. The junior middle has 193 kills and 54 total blocks heading into the final week. Roundtree has already surpassed her kill total from last season (164) and is one block away from tying her 2023 total, which was 55.
Alexis Belarmino reached 20 assists for the third time this season. Belarmino and
Defne Eciroglu have primarily split the setter duties this season. Eciroglu is averaging 4.1 assists per set and Belarmino is at 3.7 assists per set.
The Privateers have not played Northwestern State or East Texas A&M yet this season.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Northwestern State, like the Privateers, have been eliminated from postseason contention. The Demons have a conference mark of 2-12 and have lost four straight heading into Thursday. The Demons have allowed the second fewest blocks to opponents this season (1.8 per set). Ashlyn Svoboda and Reaghan Thompson are both in the top ten in the Southland in digs per set.
East Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&M-Commerce), currently is in a tie for seventh in the standings with Lamar. The Lions lost back-to-back matches against HCU and UIW last week. Avery Wilks has an attack percentage of .344 which ranks sixth in the Southland heading into the week. Ellie Baumert is tied for second in the conference in total aces with 38.
