NOTES: NEW ORLEANS | SOUTH ALABAMA
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will play their first home game of the regular season when they welcome the South Alabama Jaguars to the Lakefront Arena. The game will tip at 11 a.m. and will be carried on ESPN+.
Â
Tuesday will also serve as the team's Education Day. On the 2019 iteration of this contest, the Privateers set a new mark for women's basketball program attendance (921).
Â
The Privateers (0-3) are looking to get in the win column after three tough road games. The most recent, a 57-48 loss to Tarleton State on Tuesday, Nov. 12 saw two Privateers reach double figures.
Jayla Kimbrough led all Privateer scorers with 16 points while
Alexis Calderon added 12.
Â
In three games, five different Privateers have reached double-figures in points. Kimbrough and
Jasmine Jones have done it twice. Calderon did it against Tarleton while
Nora Francois (Alabama) and
Brialle Washington (TCU) have also reached that mark through the first three games.
Â
Also through three games, the Privateers have turned opponents over nearly 20 times per game. New Orleans also ranks fifth in the Southland in steals per game at 10.7. Individually, Calderon is second in the conference in steals only trailing Lyla Kahrimanovic (McNeese).
Â
The Privateers and Jaguars will be playing for the fifth consecutive season. Though no longer conference rivals, the two teams have had a lot of recent history. Since the 2020-21 season, the two teams have split four regular season meetings.
Â
Last year, South Alabama won 80-63 in Mobile. The last meeting at the Lakefront was won by the Privateers with a 71-63 score line in November 2022.
