NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team hits the road once again as they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be carried on ESPN+.
Last time out, the Privateers took a lead into the fourth quarter in front of a program record crowd on Education Day against South Alabama, but the Jaguars prevailed 67-57.
Jayla Kimbrough notched her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Privateers hauled in 50 rebounds against the Jaguars and were led in that category by
Mackenzie Joseph who had 11 boards. It was the second time under Coach
Trelanne Powell that New Orleans has pulled in at least 50 rebounds. They had 54 in a game against Southeastern in February 2024.
In their history, the Privateers are 14-19 all-time against current Big 12 members. New Orleans has defeated Texas Tech twice in 1982 and 1983. Eight of the Privateers' 14 wins came against UCF. The two were American South and Sun Belt rivals from 1990-92.
New Orleans will spend the rest of the 2024 calendar year with away games. After the Red Raiders, New Orleans will travel to Louisiana (Nov. 26), Baylor (Nov. 29), UAB (Dec. 18), Jacksonville State (Dec. 20) and Nicholls (Dec. 22).
This is the fourth meeting between the two sides. New Orleans leads the all-time series 2-1 after wins against the Red Raiders in 1982 and 1983. Texas Tech won the last meeting between the two sides in 2012.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Texas Tech (5-0) has already faced and defeated two Southland schools in HCU and UIW to begin the season. The Red Raiders also have wins against New Mexico, Washington State and Abilene Christian.
