Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play at Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will be the last in the Southland to begin Southland play when they make the short trip to Thibodaux to face the Nicholls Colonels on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Stopher Gymnasium.

New Orleans is coming off a pair of tough road losses. The Privateers led late but fell 66-60 to UAB. That was followed by a 57-47 loss to Jacksonville State where the Privateers rallied to cut a 10-point deficit early in the third quarter to three with just over six minutes left.

Nora Francois registered her sixth consecutive game in double figures when she scored 15 points against Jacksonville State on Friday. Francois has 26 games with 10-plus points and six with at least 20 points in her Privateer career. Francois is 11th in the Southland in points per game (12.2) and fifth in rebounds (7.1).

Freshman, Tre'Miyah Berry became the sixth different Privateer to register double figures in points when she scored 11 on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range. Berry also played a season-high 24 minutes against Jacksonville State.

In Trelanne Powell's first season at the helm, the Privateers won both meetings against the Colonels in the regular season. The two teams matched up in the Southland tournament and Nicholls won that battle 73-66.

This will be the last game for the Privateers in the 2024 calendar year. New Orleans returns to the court and conference play on Jan. 2 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
