NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will receive a stern challenge when they face the Tyler JC Apaches as part of the Cajuns Classic hosted in Lafayette. The match will take place on Friday and will not start before 11 a.m.
New Orleans (0-1) is ready to get back on the court after their last two matches have been postponed due to rain. The Privateers were unable to play against Southern and Jackson State due to rain that moved through the region for most of the last week.
The Privateers have just one on-court showing this spring which was a loss to LSU. Though the Privateers didn't score a point in the match, there were a lot of competitive moments including the Privateers leading 5-4 at flight two doubles and
Marcel Volz taking LSU's flight one singles player to a pair of tiebreaks.
It's been nine years since the men's tennis team squared off against the formidable junior college foe in Tyler. The last time the two teams squared off was in 2015 when the Privateers won the match 5-2 at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Tyler has seven men's singles players ranked in the top 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Junior College rankings. The highest ranked is Dan Persson who checks in third in the latest rankings.
The Privateers will await a match that precedes them. The day starts with Louisiana playing UTRGV. Also in Lafayette this weekend are North Alabama, UT-Arlington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
