NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team is scheduled to get back to the courts on Monday when they make the short trip to Hattiesburg to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Monday. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
It's the first match of a Magnolia State swing that sees two other Mississippi-based opponents (Mississippi Valley State and Ole Miss) come to the Lakefront this weekend.
The men's team has had to deal with weather issues early in the season with multiple matches postponed. Their last match was 12 days prior against Jackson State.
New Orleans is 2-1 on the season after a pair of 4-3 wins over Tyler Junior College and Jackson State. In both wins, the men have come back from conceding the doubles point to both opponents in their triumphs.
Marcel Volz,
Matthew Armbruster and
Sergi Tintore all have two wins in singles thus far this season. Volz has only dropped nine games in his last two singles matches. Tintore has won both of his matches in three sets. The true freshman won 7-5 in his third set against his opponent from Jackson State.
Armbruster won in three sets and earned the deciding point against Tyler. He recorded a straight set victory at Jackson State in singles.
The men have put together a recent string of success against Southern Miss. New Orleans has won the last three meetings including a 5-2 decision in 2023. Armbruster and
David Tesic both scored singles wins against Southern Miss last season.
Southern Miss has dealt with weather issues this season as well. The Golden Eagles have only played one match, which was a 6-1 loss against UAB on Feb. 12.
