Men's Tennis Faces Ole Miss During Two-Match Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will host their first Power Five opponent in six years when they face the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday in a match that was moved to 9 a.m. Preceding that, the Privateers host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.

New Orleans will conclude a week in which they face three schools from the state of Mississippi. The Privateers lost a 5-2 decision against Southern Miss on Monday. Luke Joujan and David Tesic picked up points for the Privateers.

Four Privateers have secured two wins each in singles this season. Matthew Armbruster, Joujan, Sergi Tintore and Marcel Volz each have two wins against what has been a tough schedule out of the gate that has included LSU, Southern Miss and Tyler which is one of the top JUCO teams in the nation.

This weekend kicks off a home heavy stretch for the Privateers. They will play five of the next six matches at the Privateer Tennis Center which includes their Southland opener on Mar. 13 against Nicholls. The only road match in that stretch is at Tulane on Mar. 8.

The men's team will look to get on track in doubles this season as they've lost the opening point in all four matches this season.

New Orleans last hosted a Power Five opponent in 2018. The men opened the spring season against Miami (Fla.) that year.

Ole Miss is 4-3 this season. The Rebels have lost three straight including both matches at the ITA Kickoff Weekend against Northwestern and UCLA. Nikola Slavic has been nearly automatic at #1 singles for the Rebels with a 5-1 record this spring.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
