Women's Basketball to Battle Southeastern in Hammond on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team heads to Hammond after a long week to prepare for their second contest against the Southeastern Lady Lions. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Pride Roofing University Center.

The Privateers did not have a Thursday game this week. With four games remaining, New Orleans sits at 7-7 in the standings, one and a half games behind fourth place UIW. The four-seed would get a first round bye in the upcoming Southland Tournament.

The last time on the court, the Privateers lost a close game to Lamar on Senior Day 63-60. New Orleans was ahead by five points with under four minutes left, but the Cardinals went on a late spurt to sweep the season series and remain atop the conference standings. DeArica Pryor scored 22 points and Nora Francois notched her second consecutive double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds).

Pryor became the 18th Privateer to achieve 1,000 points on the Lakefront in program history. Of all those student-athletes, Pryor has the fifth highest scoring average at 13.9 points per game. She also moved into a tie with Shanna Cook for 10th place on the all-time steals list with 173.

Jayla Kimbrough has six straight games in double figures heading into Southeastern. Kimbrough has scored a total of 91 points (15.2 per game) in that stretch. She is averaging 10.5 points per game for the season.

The Privateers are looking to finish the conference slate above .500 for what would be the third time since joining the Southland in 2013. New Orleans finished with winning records in 2017 and 2019. They were at exactly .500 (9-9) in 2016.

The two teams met in New Orleans in early January. The Privateers carried a one-point lead into the fourth quarter but the Lady Lions controlled the last 10 minutes as they defeated the Privateers 57-44. Kimbrough led the Privateers in points that day with 18.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Southeastern is 12-2 in conference play with both losses coming to Lamar. The Lady Lions have gone 9-4 at home this season. They will also have Senior Day festivities honoring Dijone' Flowers, Hailey Giaratano, Daija Harvey and Kennedy Paul.

The Lady Lions have the second best field goal percentage in the conference (40.1) and the best opponent field goal percentage (34.8). Cheyanne Daniels is one of three players in the Southland who is converting on more than 50 percent of her field goal attempts. Giaratano is the team's leading scorer at 11.7 points per game.
