Women's Basketball Plays Final Road Week at Corpus Christi, UIW

GAME NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will play their final road games of the regular season this week when they head to A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW. The Privateers will be in Corpus Christi to face the Islanders on Thursday at 7 p.m. A trip to the Cardinals in San Antonio follows on Saturday at 2 p.m.

With three games left, there is one path for the Privateers to get to the 4-seed and a first round bye in the tournament. It involves the Privateers winning the last three games and the Cardinals losing the last three games. Outside of the Privateers, UIW will also play a pair of top three teams in Southeastern and A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Privateers lost a heartbreaker that went back and forth at Southeastern last Saturday. New Orleans fell on the short end of a 69-66 decision in overtime. The Privateers pulled down 54 rebounds, the most in a conference game since March 2019.

Nora Francois has three straight double-doubles entering this week. After dropping a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds against Southeastern, Francois is averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds per game in that span. She is shooting 48.8 percent from the field in that same stretch against Nicholls, Lamar and Southeastern.

Since Southland play started, the Privateers have allowed opponents to shoot 37 percent from the field, third best in the league and only behind Southeastern and A&M-Corpus Christi. New Orleans has held five conference opponents under 35 percent from the field.

Jayla Kimbrough has seven straight games in double figures heading into the week. Kimbrough has scored a total of 103 points (14.8 per game) in that stretch. She is averaging 10.5 points per game for the season.

The Privateers lost the first meeting to both teams at Lakefront Arena. New Orleans lost 61-54 against A&M-Corpus Christi and 64-54 to UIW.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
